In the end of July / beginning of August 50 young people from 10 countries that came out of Austrian Monarchy will meet together to explore their identities. The Project is done by Palatschinke Team an informal group of youth workers and students with the support of non-governmental organisation “Grenzenlos” from Vienna. The idea behind goes to the past and Austrian Monarchy as a once constituting common cultural area for these countries. Wetter is reflected in simple physically visible items such as food, music, dressing, etc. or on more hidden level the fact remains that this historical period created good ground for observing similarities. On the other side this period of the Empire itself is also period of national wake-ups and revolutions which developed differently in specific countries for last hundred years.
“Kingdom Palatschinke” is a name for virtual kingdom – youth exchange going to take place in boy scouts centre “Wassergsprang” near Mödling, 30 km from Vienna, Austria. Exact dates of the exchange are 26. July till 8th August including travel days. Partner countries involved in project are: Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy and Austria. As mentioned event will gather 10 national groups of 4 participants and 1 team leader in every group. Expected age of participants is from 18 to 30.
On programme level exchange is made from two major components, first one dealing with the theoretical issues of European identity, history and monarchy, nationalism, xenophobia and discrimination, culture and European citizenship structured into interactive workshops. Second part of the exchange is focused on developing creative skills in youth work: theatre workshop, drumming, traditional dances and joggling/poi. Both elements are planned to be finalised, at the end of exchange, with public performance in the town of Mödling.
There are also informal part of the programme such as intercultural evenings, tour to Vienna and countryside and other but since they are informal they should not be elaborated too much.
