Slovenia is a tourism treasure especially when it comes to gastronomical diversity, for a fact! Whay? Because there are 24 gastronomic regions which present many selected dishes and a taste of Slovenia. While you are visiting Slovenia you are always suprised by opposites and contrasts of the cuisine but you are never disappointed.
Erasmus students of Turistica had their first opportunity (on Thursday,21.10.2010 )to taste some local food of the Slovenian Istra. The coast with its abundant with green vegetation offers splendid pleasures of gastronomy. The main characteristic of the Istrian cuisine are natural ingredients. The sea gives people seafood-fishing was an important trade in the Middle Ages and salt-the procedure of salt-taking at Sečovlje Saltpans is over 700 years old! Olive tree is the second most numerically extended tree in Slovenia, due to climate, olive oil of Slovenian Istria is recognizable for its aroma, because, Slovenian Istria is one of the northernmost landscapes where olives still grow! It is a tree with tradition, world-famous for its benefificial effects on health. Other well known product is prosciutto (parma ham), refošk and malvazija wine and others mediterranean plants (asparagus) and fruits (persimmon fruit).
The tasteful meeting ended too soon, but there will be some more soon, just follow us on the UP FTŠ mobility blog FTS or write to me on spevan.janja@gmail.com.
